Busy Blankets

Appealing To Your Better Nature

Do you want to be part of an amazing initiative? Of course you do!

Why don’t you join the Metis Busy Blanket Campaign, which will culminate in creating fidget blankets for patients suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease.

 How does it work?

We are raising funds through BackABuddy and the proceeds will be used to buy everything from blankets to buttons, threads, toys, yarns and zippers that are needed to create quilts.

Once we have purchased everything, we will host our Busy Blanket Day on the 25th of November and the blankets will be donated to Alzheimer’s South Africa.

 How do you become involved?

1) Donate On BackABuddy

Simply visit Metis’ BackABuddy page and then click on the Donate button and follow the instructions.

2) Join Our Busy Blanket Day

We hope to raise at least R10,000 and the funds will be used to buy goods and equipment needed to make the busy blankets.

The big day will be on the 25th of November at a yet to be confirmed venue. Those who join us at the Busy Blanket Day in November will partake in creating the blankets. Don’t worry if you are not very good at sewing as you might be the perfect person for another job.

See, it is pretty easy to get involved. Go on, visit the BackABuddy page and then let us know if you will join the Busy Blanket Day.

The reason?

Just to give you some info on the purpose of busy blankets/fidget quilts/activity mats.

People suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia often become fidgety and they constantly look for something to touch or hold. When they can’t find anything they become agitated or anxious, but research has found that a busy blanket can help lower stress levels.

These blankets come in various shapes and sizes and they are embellished with anything from buttons to looks, laces and zippers. You can also add things such as soft toys and yarn bundles.

These items provide tactile stimulation and exercise for arms, hands and fingers. The soft toys offer some relief for sore hands and helps with memory stimulation.

As you can see this is a great cause and the blankets that are created will be donated to Alzheimer’s South Africa.

So we are appealing to your better nature. PLEASE get involved.
